4 HR Influencers’ Predict 3 Top HR Trends for 2025

2025 is set to bring even more transformation to the workplace, particularly to Human Resources. From advancements in technology and AI to evolving employee expectations, HR professionals must stay ahead of the curve to foster thriving, adaptable workforces.

Wanting to explore what the future holds and figure out how organizations can prepare, we’ve gathered insights from four prominent HR professionals who share their predictions on emerging trends in HR and what they expect to stand out in the year ahead. A few main themes stood out. Here are their top 3 predictions for HR trends in 2025.

Top HR Trend #1: The Expanded Role of AI in HR and Talent Acquisition

When asked about his predictions for 2025, Trent Cotton of HatchWorks didn’t hesitate to go all in on AI. He believes that “Over the next five years, AI will revolutionize learning and development (L&D) in HR, making training more personalized and aligned with individual goals.”

He continues, “By analyzing employee skills and identifying gaps, AI can recommend customized learning paths that fit both career ambitions and organizational needs. AI will also help L&D teams stay relevant by monitoring industry trends and adjusting training programs to meet changing market demands. This adaptability will ensure that employees are equipped with the skills necessary for emerging roles.”

Desiree Goldey of ZRG Partners agrees that AI is “here to stay,” but expands on the role of managers using it: “HR will need to find a balance between leveraging technology for efficiency and maintaining the human connection. Expect to see more AI tools in recruiting, onboarding, and performance management—but with a sharper focus on ethical use and avoiding automation that dehumanizes the workplace.”

We often hear that AI should not be replacing actual people in their positions and Charlie Saffro of CS Recruiting agrees. She predicts that “In 2025, the focus will be on leveraging AI to enhance—not replace—human roles. Those who don’t embrace AI will be left behind, those that do embrace it will see more collaboration, meaningful work, and TIME to prioritize tasks that truly matter. AI won’t necessarily take your job, but someone who knows AI better than you might.”

Top HR Trend #2: Employee Development Will be Paramount

Considering the large role AI is expected to continue to play in our workforce, it’s helpful to hear some predictions focused on elevating current employees.

Amy Weber, most recently of Dent Wizard International, explains that “Companies will need to seek out talent already working inside their organization now more than ever. They’ll need to encourage and facilitate broad skill development and make it easy to make an internal move. I believe that companies who encourage and offer employees an environment that supports their development towards different functions or new teams will have an edge in retention, workforce planning and ultimately increase employee loyalty and satisfaction.”

Desiree Goldey focuses on upskilling, reskilling and internal mobility as well. She predicts that “The pace of change in technology and work demands will push companies to focus on continuous learning. Investing in upskilling and creating clear pathways for internal mobility will be the key to building loyalty and addressing talent gaps. If you’re not offering growth, someone else is.”

That’s not to say AI can’t play a part here as well though. Trent Cotton predicts that “AI-driven personalized development will transform employee growth by targeting each person’s strengths, weaknesses, and career goals. This tailored approach will boost engagement and align career paths with both individual and organizational objectives.”

Top HR Trend #3: Employee Well-Being Will be Centralized

Last but certainly not least, a focus on employees beyond their job descriptions will become more common. Desiree Goldey predicts that “Employee well-being will (finally) be treated as a strategic initiative, not an HR add-on. This means integrating mental health, physical wellness, and financial stability into the employee experience. Well-being is no longer just a perk; it’s a business driver.”

She continues, “HR professionals and leaders have an opportunity to shape a more equitable, flexible, and fulfilling future of work.” We agree that a positive and healthy approach to the new year is a trend everyone should participate in.
